Dad/Grandpa update from 9/18/10

Scott, Susan, Kent, and Allison went down to work today.  We were able to get done some small odds and ends to prep jobs for later finish.  Scott helped take down several light fixtures as well as some other odd jobs.  Kent came down to work on putting up tile in the bathroom.  The tile is really looking good so far, thanks for your hard work.

We were able to paint the doors for all rooms down the hallway

Susan painted a primer coat on the trim in the dining room as well as all round the stairwell.

Susan also painted all of the trim down the hallway.

We took all of grandma's paintings home today, they are all at my house.  We need to set up a time in the next few months to divide things up.

Dad/Grandpa update from 9/11/10

Craig, Braden, Scott, Susan, and Allison all came down today to work on more items in the house.  Scott took all of the extra old paint from the house to take out to the landfill hazardous waste facility, He filled the whole bottom of his truck.  He also filled his whole truck again with more stuff to take away.

Craig and Braden worked in the bathroom on plumbing, yay no leaks.

They started building the walls around the bathtub.

Soon we will be ready for tile with this cement board.

Cement board is all on and now we are ready for tile in the bathtub.

Walls are all built and we should be able to paint here soon so we can keep moving forward.

Master bedroom closet is now all built, ready to keep moving on.

Master Bath is all sheetrocked, Craig will now have to decide if the tub surround we have will fit or do we need to tile here as well, we will have to see.

Susan and I spent the entire day 8-4:00 cleaning all 12 windows in the living room and both bedrooms.  While cleaning the windows we had to clean all of the tracks which were full of dirt and bugs and spiderwebs.  We cleaned all of the screens as well as swept away all of the cob webs and dirt on the front of the house.  Things were looking so much better outside that the neighbor across the street came over to tell us how good things were looking.

Great job everyone, one more day down, and one day closer to being finished!

Dad/Grandpa update from September 4th and 6th

As many of you know we are selling dad/grandpa's house and decided to list it with a Realtor to help do this since we can not be down there to show it to any potential buyers.  There are still many tings that we need to accomplish to get the house completed for someone to buy it and could use all the help we can get.  We would love to be able to be finished with things by the end of the month but this can only happen if we have enough help.  We can accomplish so much more when we have more people since everyone can work on different projects all at the same time.

September 4
Scott, Susan, Craig, Linda, Jared, Leila, Corrine, Allison, and Oscar all came down today to finish emptying the furniture from the house.  Leila brought down her trailer so that we could fill it up with the last of the furniture and miscellaneous items.   We met with the Realtor today to answer any questions we had about his company.  Corrine and Jared drug all of the branches, from tree that were cut down a few weeks ago, to the dumpster.
Linda, Jared, Corrine, and Allison were able to paint the two front bedrooms today.  Things look much better with a new coat of paint to freshen things up.

 Bedroom 1

 Bedroom 2

Craig was able to begin working on the bathroom plumbing today.  He fixed the floor and got it ready for the new bath tub.  They were able to bring in a new bathtub to install and set into place.  This is going to take multiple days but things are now progressing and it will be fun to see how this moves along.

Here is what the bathroom looked like this morning, everything was taken out down to the studs.  Now we get to put everything back.

Leila, and Susan packed up and cleaned out everything in the kitchen and family room. Scott cleaned up many things and was able to fill his entire truck once again and take away tons of stuff.  Oscar made it down and helped by cutting down the grapevine in the back yard, moving tons of furniture, and many other items.

Thanks again for everyone's help today!

September 6

Scott, Craig, Linda, Mindy, Jared, Susan, and Allison all came back down today, Monday (labor day) to work on more items to be done.  We were ale to put tons of stuff into the dumpster and filled it up once again.  We will need more help one day to fill it up once more with all of the things that are still in the garage and around the yard.  Craig was able to move along with the bathroom and got more of the plumbing finished.
We pulled all of the wallpaper off the walls in the living room and ran into the same problem that we had when painting the dining room.  We will have to scrape all of the layers of paper and the first layer of paint off the wall.  The problem that happens is that if you paint over the top of everything then the paint bubbles up and peels back off in one large sheet.  This room is going to take some work.
We were able to paint all the walls in the family room today, things look much better today with that new coat of paint.  The ceiling will have to be finished another day.

Susan and I spent the rest of the afternoon evening just cleaning up everywhere so things looked nice anytime the Realtor needed to come by with potential buyers.

 Dining Room (empty)

Thanks for all of your help!

Anyone willing and able to help would be Greatly Appreciated.

Dad/Grandpa update from July & August

I know it has been a while since I have updated everyone as to what is happening at dad/grandpa's house.  I hope to be able to return to this update each week since there is still plenty of items to accomplish down there to get things ready to go. Here are the updates from July & August.

July 31
Today we had our big Yard Sale.   We started setting things up before 7:00 to be ready by 8:00 and started getting visitors by 7:15.  Susan, Carolyn, and Allison took care of all of the items that came out of the house, while Craig took care of and sold everything out of the garage.  We had a lot of people come by and we felt things were very successful.

Rhoda, Aaron, Linda, Braden, and Jared all came down and worked in the yard today.  They were able to clean out the back flowerbed, and put wood chips down over the top.  Thanks for all the work you did out in the hot sun today, things look wonderful.

Leila and Allen came down in the afternoon and helped load up all of the items that were left so that we could have a yard sale in Bountiful next week.  Allen had his chainsaw today and helped cut off low hanging branches from several trees.

Thanks for doing this, things look much better with everything trimmed up.  Now we just need to get everything moved to the dumpster and get things cleaned up.

Thank you everyone for all of your hard work for the day!

August 7
Today was our 2nd week for the yard sale.  Craig and Linda were willing to help host this big event.  I want to send out a HUGE thank you to Linda's parents who allowed us to hold the event in their yard today.  I arrived at 7:00 am to get everything out and we were able to get set up by 8:00 this morning.  We were able to sell more items today (not as much as last week, but still successful.  All of the money we have earned the past two weeks will be added to an account so that we can use it to buy the supplies we need to use to fix dad/grandpa's house.  Anything that we left over was loaded back into the trailer and taken over and donated to the D.I.

Thank you Craig & Linda for all of your efforts to always get things done!

Please be sure to thank your parents once again for allowing us to use their yard, I am very grateful.
